Secretaría de turismo y aerolínea TAR acuerdan trabajar juntos para incrementar la conectividad aérea de México

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, held a working meeting today with the directors of the airline TAR (Transportes Aéreos Regionales), headed by its owner, Miguel Franco, and its general director, Ricardo Bastón.

During the meeting they agreed to work to expand the country’s air connectivity, mainly in the northern region, as well as to start work to establish an alliance with VisitMexico, the digital platform of the Ministry of Tourism.

The head of Sectur told the directors of the airline, which is the youngest in the country, that the purpose of the unit under his charge is to see how it can help it grow, because the more routes and operations they have, the more they will consolidate regional tourism in Mexico and internal tourism will be encouraged, since there are still destinations that struggle to get direct communication in their region and not have to fly to Mexico City, to take another plane that takes them to a city near their birthplace.

He argued that the upcoming opening or expansion of airports, such as the Pueblo Mágico de Creel, in the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua, and that of Tamuín, in the Huasteca Potosina, San Luis Potosí, will give the opportunity to start new routes that connect directly to these tourist destinations with other cities in the Mexican Republic, with a number of operations that can be adjusted according to market demand, which is already beginning to reactivate after the brake that the start of the pandemic that the whole world is experiencing today. .

For his part, Ricardo Bastón, general director of TAR, indicated that they are a company that started six years ago, with a business model based on the commitment to connect cities with routes that no other airline operates, seeking a balance of having with a clientele of business travelers, but also with passengers on leisure trips, in order to diversify its income base.

He added that, as has happened in all aviation, his company has also been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which they have faced by reducing their March operations by forty percent and practically ninety percent last April; they have obtained contracts with companies for specific charter flights, which has translated into a constant income; as well as reaching agreements with their workforce, with which they have been able to mitigate the impact of the emergency without having to burn their cash flow.

Likewise, he agreed with Secretary Torruco Marqués that the only way to get out of the current crisis is with cooperation and teamwork with government authorities.

The manager explained that they are already resuming several of their operations in some cities such as Querétaro, Hermosillo, Culiacán, Chihuahua, Monterrey, Aguascalientes and Puerto Vallarta.

“Between June and July we will be flying from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta, Hermosillo to Chihuahua and from Culiacán to Chihuahua. We will adjust according to the demand that we see, seeking to reach the 26 destinations in which we operated before the appearance of Covid-19 ”, he specified.

Finally, he expressed his desire to join the alliance with the VisitMexico platform and be part of this means of promotion that can support them in each of the destinations where they arrive.
