Fuerteventura.- Ayuntamiento Puerto Rosario acepta sugerencias de los comerciantes y no modificará el pavimento de Primero de Mayo

Fuerteventura.- The municipal government group had already considered it important to maintain more direct contact with the commercial sector in the area before starting the work, scheduled for the last quarter of last year and which was finally installed after the Christmas season at the express wish of the merchants.

The Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, the First Deputy Mayor, David Perdomo, and the Councilor for Commerce, Jose Juan Herrera, accompanied by the municipal technician attached to the Department of Works, held a meeting yesterday, Monday 17, with a large group of merchants from Calle Primero de Mayo, to once again address the planned works on this pedestrian street once the Christmas season has ended. After assessing different aspects, both positive and negative, of the work to be carried out, the group of merchants decided to give up the planned works since they would seriously harm the continuity of business in the area as the road was closed for months or at least partially.



The purpose of the action was to make Primero de Mayo Street more accessible, especially in a certain section where the pavement becomes more difficult to navigate for people with some mobility limitation. From the Government Group in the Consistory of Porto, it is stated that in the decision taken, the will and interest of the professionals who are the ones who know the most about the commercial reality of this road and its surroundings have prevailed, for which reason the project will not be carried out provided.  The capital’s City Council, however, did offer its full disposition to improve commercial revitalization on such a busy road and with so many possibilities for citizen encounters, whether shopping or enjoying a walk, a terrace or a cultural and/or leisure activity. .
