En México la remuneración en los pueblos mágicos creció en promedio 8.5 por ciento anual de 2003 a 2018

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico announced that the remuneration per person who receives an income in the Magical Towns of the country grew at an average annual rate of 8.5 percent, from 2003 to 2018.

He specified that in 2003 the remuneration was 34 thousand 366.62 pesos; in 2008, of 48 thousand 161.51; in 2013, of 51 thousand 452.16; and in 2018, of 108 thousand 309.58 pesos.

He stressed that as of August 2021, in Datatur, the tourism information system of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), the main characteristics and indicators of the economic units of the private and parastatal sector that had activities related to tourism are available. for each of the 132 Magical Towns, which can be consulted at:

The information of the Magical Towns is cataloged by each of the 127 classes of economic activity and for each census event with data from 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018 developed by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Based on this information, Secretary Torruco Marqués pointed out that in 2003 these localities had 29,260 economic units related to tourism; in 2008, the number reached 41,269, which represented an increase of 41 percent; in 2013, 49 thousand 510 had already been registered, twenty percent more; and in 2018, 61,532, showing an increase of 24.3 percent. In total, from 2003 to 2018 there were 32,272 more units, meaning an increase of 110.3 percent in that period.

He added that in 2003, the staff employed in the Magical Towns was 97 thousand 47 people; in 2008, of 153 thousand 632, 58.3 percent more; in 2013, of 167 thousand 656, showing an increase of 9.1 percent; and in 2018, 235 thousand 518, with an increase of 40.5 percent. Thus, from 2003 to 2018, the personnel employed in tourism increased by 138,471, 142.7 percent more in that period.

Likewise, the paid employed personnel was 49 thousand 460 people in 2003; in 2008, 70 thousand 899; in 2013, 76 thousand 150; and in 2018, 125 thousand 246 people. On average, 48.9 percent of employed personnel are paid, since in many cases they are family businesses whose members do not have a fixed salary.

Finally, the head of Sectur stressed that with this information there are better tools to strengthen strategies for the benefit of the 132 Magical Towns that currently exist in the country.
