Agencia Insular del Mar presenta una guía para fomentar el consumo de productos pesqueros de La Palma

The Insular Agency of the Sea has prepared a guide for the acquisition of
fishery products in La Palma, in the face of the crisis caused by the
coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and that responds to the guidelines established by
the decree of state of alarm in Spain, which establishes that measures must be
taken to ensure the supply of the population.

Seafood is an essential food for the diet
and the island’s fishing sector is responsible for guaranteeing its supply,
although it is experiencing serious difficulties in finding
potential customers, basically because its most common applicants
have been catering businesses, which currently they are closed.

Faced with this situation, a specific guide has been prepared to promote
the consumption of fishery products among the population of La Palma. This was
announced by the councilors for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, José
Adrián Hernández Montoya, and for Economic Promotion, Raquel Díaz, who
celebrate this initiative of the Agency, an advisory entity to the Cabildo,
managed by Sodepal, in the maritime field- fishing.

The guide points out the points of sale of fish and the possibility that
purchases can be served at home. Thus, in the eastern part of
the island of La Palma, the Fishermen’s Association Nuestra Señora de Las
Nieves keeps the fish market open, located in the fishing dock
of the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma, as it is a
food service , at the same time that it offers the possibility of making the purchase

In the western area, by contacting the Nuestra
Señora del Carmen Fishermen’s Guild, customers can be informed of the
professional fishermen willing to attend to orders and, where appropriate, serve at

Lastly, it should be noted that in La Palma there are other points of
sale of fishery products, as well as various
supermarkets, which sell fish from the
